The Rwanda Bankers’ Association is thrilled to invite researchers, scholars, and industry experts to contribute to its inaugural Annual Research Conference scheduled for May 9th, 2024. Under the theme “The Financial Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability Interplay in Rwanda – Emerging Opportunities and Risks,” this conference seeks to explore and dissect the intricate relationship between financial technology, innovation, and sustainability within Rwanda’s financial sector.

The conference aims to shed light on the dynamic interplay of three pivotal aspects that significantly impact market dynamics:

  1. Financial Technology’s Influence: Investigating the transformative impact of financial technology, especially mobile technology, on the provision of financial services. This includes a comprehensive analysis of the potential trade-offs between efficiency gains, new product opportunities, profitability, and the promise of inclusive finance.
  2. Consumer Expectations and Market Behaviour: Examining the changing landscape of consumer expectations in terms of cost, access, and behaviour due to evolving market competition dynamics and risks associated with the mainstreaming of financial technology.
  3. Untapped Opportunities and Risks: Delving into unexplored opportunities for commercial lenders in key sectors such as housing, agriculture, and industry. This exploration will focus on identifying constraints and mapping out strategies for realizing their full potential while adapting to environmental and climate-related risks.

The Rwanda Bankers’ Association calls for high-quality papers that strike a balance between theory, application, and policy/business relevance. Selected papers will receive an honorarium and will be published as Working Papers by the Rwanda Bankers Association Research Centre.

  • Deadline for research proposal submissions: January 26th, 2024
  • Selection of papers and notification of authors: January 31st, 2024
  • Submission of completed full papers (for concept papers): March 29th, 2024
  • Technical Review Workshop: April 2024
  • Inaugural RBA Annual Research Conference: May 09th, 2024
