Rwanda’s banking landscape has evolved dramatically since 2000, when the Rwanda Bankers’ Association (RBA) was first convened, and its formal establishment in 2009. Our previous strategies have delivered Rwanda Academy for Finance training programs, research leadership through annual State of Banking Reports, and stronger regulatory dialogue yet new challenges such as digital transformation, fintech competition, and talent retention demand a fresh vision.
The sector now faces AI-driven innovation, ESG mandates, financial inclusion pressures, and the ambition to become a regional financial hub. These dynamics require RBA to evolve from an advocacy voice to a thought leadership platform.
Our 2026–2030 Strategic Plan provides this roadmap across five pillars: policy influence, member value, research excellence, RAF capacity building, and sustainable operations. With clear targets on policies influenced annually, member satisfaction, and staff trained yearly, this plan positions Rwanda on the path to becoming one of East Africa’s banking powerhouses.
The opportunity ahead for Rwanda’s banking sector has never been greater and the groundwork to capture it is firmly in place.
