The Rwanda Banker’s Association (RBA) recently highlighted digital trends as pinnacle for making great strides towards developing and offering valuable and innovative services in the banking sector.
The conversations took place during an annual Gala dinner that brings together all banking sector players under the Rwanda Banker’s Association. The event, which was an opportunity to celebrate annual industry achievements, as well as reflect on key challenges in the banking sector, brought together key stakeholders, among which were senior bankers, with a common goal to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
This year’s bankers’ dinner will be held on December 6th, 2019 at Kigali Serena Hotel under the theme; ‘The Future is Digital, The Future is now.’
Speaking at the event, the Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda, John Rwangombwa noted that keeping up with technological trends was no longer an option but a necessity.
“Digital banking is no longer an option but a necessity. We are living in an era where we do not use technology; we live technology ,’’says Rwangombwa.
The Rwandan banking sector has continued to invest a great deal in building a world-class banking sector with the best digital resources in order to make banking even more accessible to the public.
“There was once a time when we lived without Internet or smartphones. In just a decade or so, the Internet has completely revolutionized the way we handle our day to day activities, and banking is not left out.” Rwangombwa added.
The CEO at BPR Atlas Mara & Chairman of Rwanda Bankers Association, Maurice Toroitich noted that technology would play a critical role in solving some of the challenges across the spectrum in the financial sector.
In this 8th Edition of the Rwanda Banker’s Association Gala Dinner, attendees reflected on the efforts the banking sector has taken to shift from the traditional to the digital way of banking.
The Executive Secretary of the Rwanda Banker’s Association, Tony Francis Ntore disclosed that as an association, RBA’s bankers were going to launch digital solutions that would support them in marketing their services.
“We are going to launch our website and official Twitter account so to put more effort into
dialogue as well as visibility for RBA’s works.” Tony Francis Ntore said.
In the coming editions, the Gala Dinner will be also a platform that will recognize the best performers in the industry.
The Rwanda Bankers Association (RBA) was established in 2010 to act as a forum for the banking sector. The association has a number of objectives but it mainly seeks to promote standards of professional competence and practice among its members.
